Elsie Mackay

They don't make them like this anymore.

The Honourable Elsie Mackay (also widely known for a time as Poppy Wyndham) was a real action heroine, daughter of an Earl, society favourite, noted actress, hugely successful interior designer and pioneering aviatrix. She was regarded as a contemporary role model amongst women of the time both beautiful and graceful, yet renowned for driving her Rolls Royce at great speed, galloping her horses and stunt flying in her Avro biplane. She was killed attempting to fly across the Atlantic in a single engine plane in 1928, aged just 35. Who do we get today, Cheryl Cole!!
